It regards a family gathering that will be next week, my brother will be getting married. The request has to do with my needing wisdom and strength to deal with a twenty plus year long dynamic that is corrosive and destructive. The rest of my family are unbelievers. I am troubled very deeply and I know my family is unable to hear me. Dad had been an RC until he became an atheist when I was five. Envy, strife, resentments and slander rule this family. I need God’s strength to deal with them. They are unable to be at peace with others without putting them down.
Certainly the most compassionate, empathetic, loving responses possible with the Wisdom of Holy Spirit is called for in such a hazardous situation, imho. I’m sure you know that.
Beyond that . . . perhaps God would lead you . . . depending on each case by case moment . . . to say somethings like:
“Wellll, that is one perspective. However, I’m increasingly finding in my life that such an attitude and such statements just do not bear pleasant fruit. And at my age, I’ve had enough of rotten fruit from my flippant catty mouthing off. For the rest of my life, I only want to spend my time and energy saying constructively fruitful–even thoroughly uplifting things whenever possible. Life is too short for anything less.”
“I’m sure that if you thought long enough, you could think of something about that person that you liked and would like to encourage and affirm. If not, perhaps just staying away from them or not mentioning them AT ALL would be a healthier stance.”
“Welllll, you certainly CAN continue to display such an attitude and you will certainly continue to reap the harvest thereof. It’s just one of the laws of the universe. We ALL reap what we sow–sooner or later–and these days, it seems to be sooner and sooner.”
My relatives are athetists and don’t do well with kind input. The family gathering was akward, but I managed, with God’s help. It was my brothers wedding, but was a small family only gathering. I appreciated your prayers, they did mean alot to me. God Bless.
